Sour Cream Raisin Pie

Jenny Colby Larington of McCook treated us to this dessert that’s a delicious way to top off a spring picnic. It’s part of a family cookbook she’s put together with her mom, Liana. Creating this pie took some detective work, since the recipe’s guardian was Jenny’s great-grandmother, who was born in 1900. Cleyone Whisler apparently preferred keeping those baking secrets in her head and not on paper, but there’s a sweet ending to this tale.

Number of Servings: 6
Ingredients: 1 cup sour cream
1 cup sugar
1 cup raisins
2 eggs
1 tsp clove
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice
pinch of salt
1 Tbsp flour
pie crust
Directions: Boil raisins until soft, and drain water off. Mix raisins with sour cream, sugar, eggs, clove, cinnamon, allspice, salt and flour. Pour into an unbaked 10-inch pie shell. Put top crust on and bake in an oven at 350° for about an hour. Top off with whipped cream and more raisins.
