You are invited: 150 Party
Nebraska Life Magazine is throwing one heck of a party to celebrate Nebraska’s 150th birthday in 2017. Please join us from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Statehood Day March 1 for a day’s worth of fun and camaraderie alongside others who love Nebraska as much as we do. Here is what we have planned for our special day:
• See John Tooker’s large Lego model of the Nebraska State Capitol. Tooker’s amazing replica contains tens of thousands of plastic Lego bricks. The accurate model even includes small details like the capitol’s landscaping. Tooker will answer questions – like exactly how many bricks there are, and tell how long it took him to complete. This only slightly smaller version of our Nebraska statehouse will be on display all day.
• Sing along as Norfolk High School trumpet players Ethan Carlson and Thomas Wisnieski lead us through our state song, Beautiful Nebraska. Not sure of the words? Don’t worry – we’ll even provide the lyrics. Warm up your vocal cords and chime in with our statewide choir at 12:30 p.m.
• Norfolk Mayor Josh Moening will say a few poignant words at 1 p.m., before we blow out the candles on the WORLD’S largest Nebraska-shaped Big Red velvet birthday cake. (1:15 p.m.) Like our Cornhusker linebackers this cake will be HUGE. We’re not even sure yet how we are going to get it through our double doors at 206 W. Norfolk Ave., in Norfolk. The colossal cake is reason enough to stop by. There will be plenty for all to enjoy.
Special product deals mean it is YOU who receive the gifts on this Nebraska milestone 150thbirthday. See below to learn more about our brand new Nebraska 150 long-sleeve T-shirts. Please join us. It’s not a party without you!
